A new meeting place for all ages, beneath a motorway bridge

Under the bridge: Modular Pumptrack brings movement to Recklinghausen

Where the underside of the A43 bridge once detracted from the cityscape of Recklinghausen, a lively meeting place has now emerged: «Floor 43» featuring the URBAN modular pump track in the World Cup layout. Children, teenagers and adults now have a dedicated space to ride bikes, scooters and boards, to stay active and to enjoy time together.

ALL-WEATHER FUN!

Rain? Snow? No problem! The bridge provides cover for the pumptrack to be used all year round.

Sun and heat? Easy! The bridge offers plenty of shade – even on the hottest summer days!

Design & Specification

Before implementation, comprehensive safety checks were required:

  • Fire risk assessment beneath the bridge (clearance approx. 5 m; no flammable materials permitted)

  • Traffic and political coordination due to the central location between key traffic and cycle routes

The decision was therefore made to install the URBAN Edition in prefabricated concrete modulesin prefabricated concrete modules: highly durable, non-combustible and visually well suited to the bridge setting.

Durable and Low Maintenance

The URBAN Edition combines concrete construction with modular technology. The result is a robust, weather-resistant surface designed to withstand intensive daily use.

Perfect for many years of rolling fun!

Modular Design for All Generations

The URBAN World Cup Pumptrack demonstrates the versatility of modular systems: straightforward to scale, adaptable to changing needs and economical to maintain over time. Floor 43 shows how modular elements can unlock the potential of urban spaces, creating an inclusive facility that appeals to all age groups.

Core Takeaway

There’s hardly a better way to revitalize an unused space!

With Floor 43, an area beneath the bridge has been transformed into a place for movement, enjoyment and social connection. Projects like this demonstrate how unconventional sites - under bridges, on rooftops, in schoolyards or former football pitches - can become valuable public assets.

Do you have a new idea? Or a vacant site waiting for purpose?
