Private and public institutions throughout Switzerland have until September 30, 2025 Time to submit your creative ideas for sustainable planning, design, and use of living spaces. What's special about this: We're looking for fresh, concrete, and locally anchored projects that nevertheless have the potential to function and inspire in other regions or contexts.
It's important that the three pillars of sustainability—environmental, social, and economic—are linked together in as balanced and meaningful a way as possible. The goal is for these projects to have a real impact on everyday life.
And don't worry, "place" can be thought of broadly: It refers to all spaces that have been shaped in some way by humans – not just buildings, but also streets, squares, courtyards, neighborhoods, or even spaces outside of cities. In short: everywhere where people live, shape, and leave their mark.
Federal agencies involved
The program is funded by the Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE) together with the Federal Office of Culture (BAK).
Who is it addressed to?
Public bodies (cantons, municipalities, public institutions), private bodies, or civil society organizations in Switzerland. Projects by individuals and international projects are excluded.
What's the point?
Maximum CHF 20,000 per project. The funding contribution may not exceed 50% of the budgeted project costs – therefore, own financial resources must be guaranteed.
Deadlines
The deadline for applications is September 30, 2025. Project selection will take place at the end of the year and implementation will start in early 2026.
A place that lives - and connects.
What is being funded?
Live more sustainably – thanks to vibrantly designed places where you can feel good.
Whether in settlements, neighborhoods, buildings or open and outdoor spaces: we are looking for projects that strengthen coexistence – with a view to health, inclusion and true accessibility.
How about a modular pump track, for example?
Whether in the middle of town, on a playground, or along a sidewalk, such a track allows everyone—whether on a skateboard, bike, scooter, or inline skate—to roll together, laugh, meet, learn from each other, and let off some steam. It's a place that connects generations and social groups while also promoting fitness, coordination, and endurance.
Sustainability meets play, movement and community.
A modular pump track is not only versatile and cool, but also truly sustainable: Thanks to its modular design, it can be rebuilt, expanded, or even relocated at any time. And best of all, with around 3,000 laps per day, it's a true long-term favorite – and it's also robust, weatherproof, and low-maintenance.
A place that lives – and connects.
Whether for leisure time, school lessons, bike workshops, or events, the pump track can be used in many ways. It invites everyone to participate – even during setup! A joint opening event, a lap counter, or regular workshops will quickly make the track a new favorite spot in the neighborhood. And best of all, it fosters genuine interaction, strengthens a sense of community – and is simply a lot of fun!
