The Modular Pumptrack is an innovative solution for the sustainable planning, design and use of public space.

Swiss funding for “liveable and sustainable places”

Private and public institutions throughout Switzerland have until September 30, 2025 to submit creative ideas for sustainable planning, design, and use of living spaces. What makes this programme unique is its focus on innovative, practical, and locally grounded projects that also have the potential to be replicated in other regions or contexts.

A key requirement is that projects integrate the three pillars of sustainability - environmental, social, and economic - in a balanced and meaningful way, with the aim of creating a tangible impact on everyday life.

The concept of “place” is broad. It includes not only buildings, but also streets, squares, courtyards, neighbourhoods, and outdoor spaces - anywhere shaped and used by people.

Federal partners

The program is funded by the Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE) together with the Federal Office of Culture (BAK).

Who can apply?

Public bodies (cantons, municipalities, public institutions), private bodies, or civil society organizations in Switzerland. Projects by individuals and international projects are excluded.

Funding details

Maximum CHF 20,000 per project. The funding contribution may not exceed 50% of the budgeted project costs – therefore, own financial resources must be guaranteed.

Deadline

The deadline for applications is September 30, 2025. Project selection will take place at the end of the year and implementation will start in early 2026.

A place that lives - and connects.

What kind of projects are supported?

Live more sustainably – thanks to vibrantly designed places where you can feel good.
Whether in settlements, neighborhoods, buildings or open and outdoor spaces: we are looking for projects that strengthen coexistence – with a view to health, inclusion and true accessibility.

How about a modular pumptrack?
A modular pumptrack is a strong example of the type of project this programme supports. Whether located in a town centre, playground, or public space, a modular pumptrack creates a place where people of all ages and abilities can come together - on bikes, skateboards, scooters, or inline skates - to ride, learn, and connect. It's a place that connects generations and social groups while also promoting fitness, coordination, and and confidence.

Sustainability meets play, movement and community.
A modular pump track is not only versatile and cool, but also truly sustainable: Thanks to its modular design, it can be rebuilt, expanded, or even relocated at any time. Often seeing up to 3,000 laps per day, it's a true long-term favourite – and it's also robust, weatherproof, and low-maintenance.

From leisure use and school activities to workshops and community events, the pumptrack offers a wide range of uses.
It encourages active participation - from community involvement during installation to opening events and ongoing programming. The result is a space that fosters genuine social interaction, strengthens community ties, brings lasting value, and is simply a lot of fun!
