The blue bowtie in Brühl

1) Funding

Thanks to the funding program Modern sports facilities 2022The Brühl Bowtie was almost entirely covered, with €34,500 in support. Two further Modular Pumptracks in North Rhine-Westphalia were co-financed through the same programme.

The background

Spend half an hour at a Modular Pumptrack, and it quickly becomes clear why these installations are so compelling. It is hard to leave, and when you do, you want to come back. A Modular Pumptrack makes a genuine contribution to encouraging activity across generations, which is why a wide range of funding bodies are available to support both clubs and municipalities with their investment. That is exactly what happened in Brühl.

2) Who It Is For

"What do bicycles, skateboards, scooters, roller skates, inline skates, wheelchairs and balance bikes have in common? They can all be used to ride the city of Brühl's new Modular Pumptrack. Toddlers, children, teenagers and adults can all use it, each at their own pace."

What do we think?

A Modular Pumptrack is not just for children, adults discover quickly that the experience is unlike anything else, whatever equipment they are riding. The pumptrack is for everyone: local communities, village and neighbourhood groups, clubs and institutions are all welcome to use it. The Bowtie also has no fixed home, it can travel. More on that below.

3) The opening event:

"Everyone in and around Brühl is warmly invited to come together and ride alongside the mayor at the Modular Pumptrack on Friday for the opening."

Let's celebrate

A Modular Pumptrack brings people together to watch, to ride, to meet — all within a compact and easily managed space, with the track at the centre. It strengthens community, and the surrounding area benefits too. Looking further ahead, races and other events can be built around the Modular Pumptrack, and it is a natural complement to a weekly market, a Christmas market or a summer festival.

4) A Track That Travels

The Brühl Bowtie is not fixed in place. It moves from district to district and from space to space, unanchored and fully mobile. What does it take to set it up? As described in the Article from the city of Brühl:

"Five or six motivated pairs of hands, and a reasonably level surface of approximately 10 by 22 metres. That is all."

Want to upgrade?

The Modular Pumptrack can stay in one place for as long as needed, then move on, be stored if necessary, and continue its tour. And if the Bowtie layout eventually leaves you wanting something more, a few additional modules can transform it into a whole new configuration.

We wish everyone in Brühl the best with their new Pumptrack the blue bowtie!
